GES Graduate Teachers Recruitment: Hope is coming as frustrated teachers beg GES for update
The initiation of the processes for the recruitment of graduate teachers by the Ghana Education Service (GES) for the year 2024 came with its excitement. More than two months after the portal was closed, teachers who applied have not received any new update from the management of pre-tertiary education on their fate.
This situation has compelled teachers to take to the GES official Facebook page to seek help and to beg the GES to keep them updated on the recruitment process.
According to one, Ekow Joe Ben, he has spoken with Convenor of BMW and also had a chat with Nana B, the national organiser for NPP. He furthered that the recruitment of graduate teachers would be done soon.
A worried teacher reacted with the comment “The silence and anxiety are unbearable,” which explains the situation teachers who applied for posting find themselves in currently. Others called on the GES to let them know their fate, whether they have been recurited or not, so that they would know the way forward.
Teachers are looking forward to this recruitment to help them not only contribute to Ghana’s education system but to also help them put food on their table.
Some of the comments left on GES’ official Facebook page on the issue are ”
“Release an update so we can know our left and right.”
“Very wicked organisation.”
“Appoint a trained university teacher.”
“Ghana Education Service Please, when are you releasing postings for graduate teachers? The silence and anxiety are unbearable.”
“Ghana Education Service, Please give us an update on the university-trained teachers hiring. Even if we don’t get the chance, we will be okay with you putting us in suspense.

The standard practice of the GES when it comes to recruitment of teachers for the academic year is that teachers are posted to schools and districts where they are needed a few days to reopen or a few days after reopening of schools.
Public basic and secondary schools where the services of the professional teachers who applied for posting are needed reopened school on September 10th, 2024; however, teachers have not been posted.
Sadly, the GES has remained silent on the matter, which has created a deep communication gap for that matter. 4
However, with the 2024-2025 academic year expected to commence after October 28, 2024, it is hoped that the GES will post qualified professional teachers who applied for the Graduate Teachers Recruitment when the new academic year begins.

One Ekow Joe Ben had this to say on the political twist of the graduate teacher recruitment standstill.
A friend of mine came to me worried, asking me about the recent online application by GES. I told him I knew nothing about it, and if that is so, I would do my checks for him. I quickly chatted with Convenor of BMW and also had a chat with Nana B, the national organiser for npp. I told them that these guys are mostly npp guys and they are worried about GES continuous silence. They told me they will get back to me till date; I haven’t heard from them. I then went to the platforms that have been created by these graduates to calm down and exercise patients. I told them GES will surely recruit them. I am not a politician, but I can assure you, the director general and his deputy will do something next week. Just calm down. Thank u
A cross section of teachers is looking forward to politically induced recruitment soon, given that the country is warming up towards a historic presidential and parliamentary election slated for December 7th, 2024.
While teachers who applied look forward to being recruited, politicians are also looking at how they can play the recruitment card so close to the election to win some more votes.
