Accra College of Education Announces Admission Slots In Ga and Dangme Languages For The 2024/2025 Academic Year

Accra College of Education has announced 20 admission slots for the 2024/2025 academic year specifically for the study of the Ga and Dangme languages. This initiative is part of the college’s efforts to promote and preserve these local languages and cultures.
The Ga-Dangme Council has been requested to identify potential candidates who are interested in applying. Once identified, the names of these applicants should be submitted to the Principal of the College for review by the admission board.
Each year, the college announces slots for such languages. During the fourth matriculation ceremony for Bachelor in Education (BEd) students, the Principal of Accra College of Education, Dr. Samuel Awinkene Atinkono, announced this initiative. At the event, 400 new students took the Matriculation Oath, with a gender distribution of 186 males (47%) and 214 females (53%).

Dr. Atinkono mentioned that this decision follows an agreement to allocate at least 10 admission slots each for Ga and Dangme studies annually for the next five years. This move is part of a broader effort to support the development of these languages and cultures.
Although the college received 2,021 applications a year ago, it could only admit 400 students due to limited infrastructure. This number is a slight decrease compared to the previous year. However, Dr. Atinkono noted that the Ministry of Education, through the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, has initiated plans to construct new hostel facilities to accommodate more students in the future.
Dr. Atinkono urged the students to focus on their studies, emphasizing that their primary goal should be to excel academically and become professional teachers. He advised them to dedicate their time and energy to their education and professional development.
The college has also made several improvements to support student welfare and education. A new clinic with a resident nurse has been established on campus to address health emergencies. Additionally, the college has enhanced its teaching facilities by providing new furniture for lecture halls and extending internet connectivity across the campus. Through a partnership with the American Embassy in Ghana, the college has also welcomed an American English Fellow to assist in teaching English and providing professional development.
Accra College of Education remains committed to advancing education and preserving local languages and cultures. The new admission slots for Ga and Dangme studies are a testament to this commitment, and the college looks forward to welcoming new students who will contribute to these efforts.
