Juaben Model JHS unveiled in trending video by MoE and GES

The New Juaben Model JHS
The Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) have unveiled the Juaben Model JHS, which gives a glimpse into what future junior high schools will look like in Ghana.
The Juaben Model JHS is a junior high school located in Juaben, in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
The Ghana Education Service revealed the school’s model status in a video on its official Facebook page.
After demolishing the old school, the government rebuilt it to ensure a full transformation. The new school structure is a one-story structure that has replaced the old one. It comes with a library and other important resource centres that many schools in Ghana will only dream of having currently.
The Juaben Model JHS has been equipped with state-of-the art facilities to befit its status. The school is located in a densely populated locality and will serve the basic education needs of a huge population of schoolchildren in the Juaben community.
The Juaben Model JHS has been provided with four fully furnished and well-equipped laboratories dedicated to physics, chemistry, and biology.
It also has a modern computer science resource centre for teaching and learning about computing.
Given the investments made in the school, it is hoped that it will become a centre for academic excellence.
The Ghana Education Service’s Facebook page featured a video that sparked reactions from some of its teachers. They advocated for the replication of this success in all public basic schools nationwide, with the aim of enhancing teaching and learning and modernizing public education.
Below are some of the comments left on the video.
“That’s what Ghanaian children deserve, and even better. All schools under trees must be a thing of the past.”
“This is how all basic schools in Ghana should be.”
In the heat of the excitement, a commentator posted that Ghana Education Service authorities at Effiduasi Senior High School (EFFISCO) are asking students to bring a ream of A4 sheets. The complainant added that since many of the students have not been provided with the A4 rims by their parents, the school leadership has sacked over 1000 students.
The new Juaben Model JHS is one of the many new model schools the government intends to build across the country, one at a time, as it works to transform the face of pre-tertiary education at the basic and secondary school levels.
At the secondary school level, the government has achieved success with the introduction of STEM senior high schools where students are learning robotics, among other STEM-related subjects, which will help learners venture into engineering fields upon completion of their education.
As of January 2023, the government already had Awaso STEM School in the Western Region, Abomosu STEM School in the Eastern Region, Bosomtwe Girls STEM School, and Bosomtwe STEM School, both in the Ashanti Region, while Koase Sec/Tech (an already existing school) is located in the Ahafo Region and Accra High School (engineering only) in the Greater.
