Our main observation has to do with the weakness in Mathematics and Science by most students. With great emphasis on their inability to answer the practical Integrated Science questions. The performance in these two subjects is very worrying for several candidates per the areas covered by the mock examination.

Below is the grading system. This grading system may lead to low aggregates but higher Raw Scores for candidates.

Education-News Consult Chief Examiners General Observations.
- Schools have had challenges training their candidates on how to attempt applications and answer case study questions. This can negatively affect the results of candidates preparing for the BECE if WAEC and NaCCA do not blend direct and case studies, application, or critical thinking.
- Candidates who sat the examination often lagged behind in subjects such as creative arts, design, and career technology. This had a significant impact on candidates’ performance in these subjects.
- Candidates have serious problems with answering English-language summary questions. The students are not able to answer the questions well. Most of them write very long, winding responses or answers without any relevant information. This can negatively affect the performance of most BECE candidates in the 2024 exam.
- Candidates are making unpardonable errors in the formal and informal letters they write. In these areas, English teachers must assist their candidates. A lot of candidates don’t know the difference between a formal and an informal letter, or they confuse the two.
- Candidates should work on their summary and comprehension skills. Write full sentences for answers and avoid writing one one answers for comprehension.
- Several candidates did not read through their essays and many mixed the features of formal and informal letters, Others wrote narrative essays without titles.
- Long winding paragraphs was so common. In some instances an entire page had no paragraph at all.
- Candidates writing their full name along with signing was common in the answers written the informal letter question.
- Poor presentation of answers in RME and social studies, as well as the provision of answers that are not rich with information, lead to low marks.
- Candidates found it very difficult to express their answers for Social Studies and RME questions.
- Mathematics and science are serious headaches for most candidates. Science, in particular, plays a critical role in determining a student’s placement in a school or their lack thereof. Candidates don’t appear prepared for WAEC’s 2024 BECE Mathematics and Science exams.
- Students often score poorly in their objective tests, which also affects their overall performance per subject.
- Poor shading by candidates in the objective test paper. Candidates need to shade well.
- The computing paper was another challenge. Newly introduced topics gave students a challenge in the examination.
