English Language Report
Essay Report
Parents and students are to take this 2025 BECE Home Mock Results and Report Serious.
Positives:
- The overall quality of essays has improved compared to the previous two mocks.
- Students who participated in earlier exams are paying closer attention to handwriting, grammar, and spelling. They are also reviewing their essays, as evidenced by corrections and the inclusion of omitted words. These are positive signs of student improvement. Our new candidates, taking the exam for the first time, also made a good impression; however, some essays were shallow and short.
- The average score of students is 70/100. while the scores ranged between 50 and 90 out of 100. All students with scores below this need to work harded.
Areas of Concern:

Many students who joined the Home Mock in March made significant errors in their essays. Some struggled to differentiate between formal and informal letters, mixing features from both in their attempts to answer formal letter questions. This is a basic question, yet students often deviated from the correct format.

In formal letters, students should not inquire about the recipient’s well-being. Candidates must thoroughly understand the features of formal letters, accurately identify a formal letter question, and apply only formal letter features in their responses.

Poor point introduction sentences were used, negatively impacting scores. Sentences like “Another is education” or “Secondly, Education” are unacceptable for an English Essay at the BECE. Introductions should clearly present the paragraph’s theme. For example: “Another cause of flooding in our community is the lack of education on the negative impact of improper refuse disposal.”

Students should avoid excessively lengthy paragraphs. Paragraphs exceeding six lines are discouraged. Essays are best written with concise paragraphs of no more than six lines. Candidates should be direct and avoid unnecessary elaborations in formal letters, as these waste time and do not improve scores.

Students should refrain from defining terms in formal letters and proceed directly to the relevant facts. Some candidates lost focus in their introductions by defining flooding, in addition to asking about the director of education’s well being. This is unnecessary.

Another misplaced feature observed in formal letters is writing full names before the signature. The subscription should follow this format:
- Yours faithfully,
- (Signature here)
- John Gammar (Full Names)
- Compound Overseer (Title or position, if any)

Students who answered question 3 (essay) generally performed well, but many failed to:
- Provide clear, concise titles of no more than ten words.
- They did not avoid over-elaboration while explaining points.
- Keep paragraphs short.
Those who answered question three (Article question) did not writer’s name, school, etc., immediately after the essay. Less than 5% of students who answered this question did this correctly. Students must review the features of this essay type.

Date writing challenge:
Some students are confused about how and where to write the date in an essay. Students who answered the informal letter question (Q1) wrote the date under the writer’s address and repeated it under the recipient’s address. This is incorrect. Those who used the slanted address often failed to align the date with the first letter of the first address line. This alone results in a loss of ½ mark, and more marks are lost if punctuation is incorrect.

Salutation:
Some candidates incorrectly wrote formal letters without a title and placed the salutation in the wrong location, such as above the recipient’s address.

Comprehension:
Providing multiple answers for underlined words is detrimental. Examiners will award zero if one of the provided answers is incorrect. Students should take note and avoid this.

Failure to brainstorm:
Examiners have observed that candidates who scored below 25/30 on their chosen essay failed to brainstorm the question beforehand. A quick brainstorm should address key questions for each essay question at the BECE.

Religous and Moral Education (RME) Report for 2025 BECE Home Mock
Religious and Moral Education Report
Candidates demonstrated excellent performance in the objective test, with an average score of 38 out of 40. However, test scores for Section A ranged between 30 and 40. Again the total score obtained by students ranged between 50/100 and 95/100 with an average score of 80/100. Candidates far from the average score need to work hard.
Students faced challenges when it came to applying knowledge and answering critical thinking questions, such as Question 1. Nearly all students deviated from Question 1a, which affected their overall scores. With the new question structure, students must be prepared for application questions, which are compulsory. They must also read questions carefully to identify the core issues and avoid deviations and low marks.
Question 3B: This question required knowledge application on how the environment can be protected using local cultural practices. However, learners provided superficial answers, resulting in lost marks.
Students should refrain from using the phrase “It brings blessings from God” as a generic response to every question or when they are unable to answer a question.
Students lacked the ability to apply their knowledge to application questions, such as Questions 1 and 2.
Many candidates had a general idea about the questions, but their understanding was insufficient as they failed to comprehend the entire preamble and limited themselves to only a part of it. Always read and reread the preamble before determining the question’s focus.
The examiner had to lower the marking scheme’s demands to broaden the scope of acceptable answers. Learners should carefully re-examine their answers and review the suggested solutions. They should expect similar questions in the BECE (Compulsory Questions).
Candidates should discontinue the practice of underlining answers. The BECE requires writing answers, not presenting them as notes. (DO NOT UNDERLINE ANSWERS).
When “REVISE” appears on the marked script, it indicates that the answers are weak and significantly deviate from the marking scheme’s requirements. Candidates should revise thoroughly and carefully study the suggested solutions and the question structures to improve their performance in future mock exams and the BECE.
