2024 BECE grading system (New Update)
One important question that needs to be answered is, “What is the grading system for 2024 BECE? This is because students preparing for the BECE this year have been seeking answers for these from the Ghana Education News team.
Each year, candidates sit for the WAEC-administered WASSCE and BECE, candidates are graded, and that determines the aggregate they score. The grading system does not affect the raw scores of candidates in any way.
Knowing the grading system can serve as a motivator and can help candidates work hard to meet their best-target grade for each subject.
With the 2024 BECE over but with one subject pending, students who sat for the exam have started asking this all-important question.
It is important to inform readers that, WAEC may not always use the same grading system for every examination and that the performance of candidates in each exam year can determine the grading system to some extent.
For instance, if the highest score in Integrated Science is 60% for 2024, the grading system will be greatly affected.
The BECE grading system used by WAEC has been designed in a way that does not use the word ‘Fail’ on the result slip of candidates. But when it comes to the WASSCE ‘FAIL’ is used to represent a score that is 35 marks or below. The BECE, on the other hand, shows the LOWEST grade for the same score of 35 or below. This clearly means that there is nothing like a failure in BECE.
What is the 2024 BECE grading system?
The grading scheme has been updated, meaning, more students can now make grade one if they score at least 80 out of 100. This used to be 90 out of 100. Below are the updated details.

A BECE candidate who can do well based on the second grading system has a chance of making good grades at the BECE. Schools are challenged to use the second grading system throughout their BECE mock examination to push their candidates to work even harder.
shouldn’t the different regions all have different gradings? coz the questions are different and I believe it level of difficulty is also different right?
it’s 90 – 1 not too high for these young minds . universities don’t use search grading system so why these young ones .
yes oooo
true talk
It seems as if you would want to undergrade these young students
Pls this grading system is too much for these students
The grading system is too high….the 75-100 for 1 was okay
Why have you raised the marking scheme like that, is too high. Please you should lower it a bit from 80 – 100 as 1
yes I think is okay
I should be rather 80-100 for 1
please it’s much for the kids so beg you to reduce it for them
This is actually better than the previous grading system where 90-100 was grade 1.
no why that isn’t everyone equal
I DON`T THINK SO
