2024 BECE Graduates To Start SHS1 On Oct 30

All is set for 2024 BECE graduates to start SHS1 on Oct 30, 2024.

The Ghana Education Service has released the 2024-2025 calendar, which indicates 2024 BECE graduates will start SHS1 on Oct 30. This was made public in a letter released by the GES and sighted by the Ghana Eduation News.

According to the GES, it has also changed the vacation date for students in SHS1 and SHS2 to help align the 2024-2025 academic calendar and avoid anticipated challenges.

Per the new arrangements, students in SHS1 and SHS2 will vacate on 28th October and start their first term/semester of the new 2024-2025 academic calendar on 30th October.

This means that the students will not go home after vacation but will immediately start the 2024-2025 academic year.

What does the reopening date mean to 2024 BECE graduates and their parents?

The 2024 BECE graduates starting SHS1 on Oct 30 mean that the BECE results and school placements will be released at least one week before October 30th. Students and parents will have to prepare to report to school as boarders and day students depending on the accommodation type they get and the schools they are placed in.

Why did the GES change the reopening date?

The GES explained that the change in re-opening dates is to ensure that the school calendar starts in September in 2024.

“The academic year begins on Wednesday, 30th October, 2024 for all Senior High Schools. Please note that the current first-year students in transitional calendar schools will end their 2023/2024 academic year on Monday, October 28, 2024 and be promoted to Form Two (2) to continue with the new academic year immediately.

“Incoming first-year students for single track and transitional schools will also begin school on Wednesday, 30th October, 2024. Additionally, all continuing students in single track schools will reopen for the new academic year on Wednesday, 30th October, 2024,” part of the statement read.

It added, “This re-opening date aims to ensure that the school calendar starts in September next year and paves the way for our final year students to write their 2025/2026 WASSCE in May/June.”
