2024 BECE School Selection Deadline
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has begun the 2024 BECE school selection process. The exercise began on Thursday 28th August. Let’s take a look at the deadline for the school selection.
2024 BECE School Selection Deadline
Officially, the deadline for the 2024 school selection is Wednesday, 4th September, 2024. However, some schools and districts have been given a new deadline. The new deadline is Friday, 6th September, 2024.
According to a statement signed by Mr. Prince Agyemang-Duah, Acting Director of the Schools and Instruction Division, parents and guardians are encouraged to actively participate in the selection exercise to ensure a smooth placement process for their wards.
About The 2024 School Selection
This year’s process allows the total of 570,461 candidates who sat for the BECE to choose from a range of Senior High Schools and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

Additionally, candidates will have the opportunity to select STEM subjects, including biomedical science, engineering science, and agriculture.
To ensure transparency and adherence to guidelines, officials from the GES headquarters will oversee the selection exercise nationwide. Regional Directors of Education have been instructed to inform stakeholders about the selection process dates..
2024 BECE School Selection Guidelines
The second cycle school selection form for 2024 provides clear guidelines for students to select their choice of public Senior High Schools in Ghana.
The form explains that SHSs have been grouped into categories A through D, as well as Technical institutions.
Students are required to select six schools, including programs and accommodations for each choice.
Options for Students
According to the guidelines provided in the selection form, students can choose either boarding SHSs or day schools as their sixth option.
These guidelines aim to ensure a smooth placement process for qualified BECE candidates.
Candidates who wish to enter SHS or Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) schools must follow the guidelines below with the guidance of their parents/guardians and school authorities
- Select Six Schools: Candidates must choose six schools and rank them in order of preference, with the most preferred. choice as the first one.
- Select Programs and Residential Status: Students must select the specific programs and indicate whether they prefer boarding or day school for each choice.
- Choose a Compulsory Day School: As the sixth choice, candidates must select a compulsory day school within 16 kilometers of the Junior High School (JHS) attended. Alternatively, they can choose a boarding school from a specific list.
- Consider Second Placement Options: Candidates who miss out on all their initial six choices can select five schools from a specified list for consideration of a second placement.
