The WASSCE is an important external examination which initiates all final year senior high school students to the tertiary level. The examination is held annually by the West African Examination Council (WAEC), and it’s written by all West African countries as well.
As candidates (general science and home economics students) prepare towards the start of their first paper, they should not leave Biology out, due to its importance in calculating of the final aggregate.

This is one of the most repeated topics. Candidates are advised to master this broad topic well. They should understand every single detail and should be able to provide definitions for simple genetic terms, such as chiasmata, autosome, allele, chromosome, haploid, diploid, chromatin, phenotype, amongst others.
The Biology section B paper is into two parts, the compulsory and the selective part. Question 4 of the selective part is always on Genetics. Hence, candidates are to glance through the past question to verify this as well.
2. Cell Theory
For the easiest topic in Biology, cell theory is of no exception. A cell, they say, is the basic unit of life, hence, this should be the most basic topic that you should tackle. Candidates should master key terminologies like eukaryotic cells, prokaryotes, division of cells, cell respiration, amongst others.

Candidates should be familiar with simple terms such as plant nutrition, respiration, photosynthesis, transportation, amongst others. These are vital aspects in the plant physiology.

From the told story of evolution from Darwin’s perspective, to the creation story from the Bible, should give you a heads-up on how simple and understandable this topic is. Candidates should master key areas like natural selection, specification, adaptation, amongst others.
Ecology also linked with evolution. Food web, food chain, balance of the ecosystem are all sub topics to master under ecology.
8. Homeostasis
Indeed, this is one of the rare topics that drops in the Biology theory. We predict more questions from this angle this year. Candidates should master a term like osmoregulation.
9. Variation in Population
Candidates are urged to know basic stuff like, measuring the physical appearance of individuals, know how to observe skin colour, and classify them into loops, whorls, compounds, and arches.
10. Soil Formation
Candidates are urged to master soil components, the physical nature and properties of soil, soil conservation, and soil fertility.
