GES confirms 2024-2025 SHS Semester 2 reopening date

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed the SHS reopening date following a series of fake news reports about a possible change in the reopening schedule.
In a press release dated 2nd January 2025 and signed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Head of the Public Relations Unit of the GES, the service stated that Senior High Schools (SHSs) will reopen on 3rd January 2025, in accordance with the 2024-2025 academic calendar. It further confirmed that basic schools will reopen on 8th January 2025, as announced earlier.
The Second Term for basic schools will begin on 8th January and end on 17th April 2025.
The Second Term vacation is scheduled for 18th April to 5th May 2025. Term Three will begin on 6th May and conclude the academic year on 24th July 2025.
The 2025 BECE will be administered by WAEC in June 2025, as per the GES calendar.

The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to remind students, staff, parents, and the general public that the 2024-25 academic year calendar has not changed. As previously announced, SHS students are expected to report back to school on January 3, 2025, while primary and Junior High Schools will reopen on January 8, 2025.
Meanwhile, the management of GES is engaging the ministry for a speedy resolution of concerns raised by the leadership of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary School (CHASS).
We kindly request that all stakeholders take note of these dates and make necessary arrangements accordingly.
