The Ghana Education Service (GES) has declared a 4-day break for free SHS students across the country in public senior high schools, effective May 7th, 2024.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has granted permission to senior high and technical school (SHS/SHSTS) students who have attended the 18 and above years to return home and participate in the limited registration exercise, which will begin on Tuesday, May 7th, 2024, and end on Monday, May 27th, 2024.
The Electoral Commission (EC) states that the exercise will take place at district offices and in difficult-to-access electoral areas of the nation.
Therefore, in accordance with the constitutional right of all Ghanaian citizens to exercise their franchise, we have granted students four days off from campus, effective Tuesday, May 7th, 2024, to Friday, May 10th, 2024.
The Electoral Commission is conducting limited voter registration as part of its preparations for the presidential and parliamentary elections that will take place in Ghana on December 7th, 2024, to choose the country’s next president and members of parliament for the next four years.
Without this permission, students in SHS who have turned 18 may not be able to register to obtain a valid voter ID card for voting during the election. The break has become necessary because it will allow learners to register at their location, where they are likely to be during the December break, and cast their votes.

Without a break for Free SHS students they can not register and it will be prudent that private SHSs also grant their students the same privileges to ensure the students exercise their right to obtain the voter ID card and have the chance to take part in the national elections on December 7th, 2024.
Students are to report to school for the commencement of academic work on May 10th.
