The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to recruit 10,000 teachers and Non-Teaching staff to support secondary, junior high, and primary schools across the country.
This is the third MoU between YEA and GES, following previous agreements in 2015 and 2018.
The 10,000 personnel will be recruited as teaching assistants, kitchen assistants, and security guards to augment and fill gaps in the GES. The recruitment will be done in three categories: 4,000 kitchen assistants, 4,000 security guards and 2,000 teaching assistants.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the teaching assistant role, applicants must have a minimum qualification of a diploma certificate. Successful applicants will receive a monthly allowance of GH¢1,000. The security guards and kitchen staff will receive a monthly allowance of GH¢500.
The YEA is supporting the GES with part of its entitlements under the GET Fund, and prospective applicants are encouraged to apply for any of the vacancies listed above. The recruitment is expected to help reduce the pressure on existing staff and boost teaching and learning for better results in schools.
The Deputy CEO of YEA, Alhaji Bashiru Ibrahim, emphasized that the MoU is aimed at assisting the GES to run educational services effectively, and the YEA is committed to supporting the GES in this regard. The Deputy Director General of GES, Mr. Stephen Kweku Owusu, expressed gratitude to the YEA for their assistance and noted that the recruitment will go a long way in helping the GES augment its staff and improve educational services.

About Youth Employment Agency (YEA)
The Youth Employment Agency (YEA), a government agency established by law, has been working tirelessly to provide jobs and create employment opportunities for the youth of Ghana.
The YEA’s journey began in 2005 as the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), aimed at addressing the growing problem of youth unemployment, which was perceived as a potential threat to national security. Although it was officially inaugurated in October 2006, it lacked legal backing, functioning under the Office of the President.
In 2012, the government rebranded and repositioned the agency as a public service organization, renaming it the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA). However, despite this transition, the agency still lacked the necessary legal backing.
Determined to address this, management, in consultation with stakeholders, presented a draft bill to Parliament, leading to the passage of the Youth Employment Agency Bill (Youth Employment Agency Act 2015, Act 887) in February 2015. The President assented to it in March 2015, providing the agency with the legal backing it needed.
A Legislative Instrument (Youth Employment Agency Regulations 2016, L.I. 2231) was subsequently passed in 2016, gazetted in February 2016, and entered into force in May 2016.
The YEA’s mandate is to oversee the development, coordination, supervision, and facilitation of employment for the youth and related matters in Ghana. Its objective is to create jobs for the youth, while its vision is to become an outstanding public sector agency facilitating and creating sustainable employment opportunities for the youth nationwide.
The agency’s mission is to lead the coordination of employment opportunities and creation of jobs for the youth in Ghana. With its rich history and legal backing, the YEA is poised to make a significant impact in the lives of Ghana’s youth, providing them with the opportunities they need to thrive.
