Basic Schools Week Endings For Term 3

Basic schools in Ghana have officially resumed the third term of the 2023/2024 academic year. Lets take a look at the week endings of term 3 of the academic year.

WEEK 1 – 3/5/2024 (Worker’s Day – Wednesday (1st May)

WEEK 2 – 10/05/2025

WEEK 3 – 17/05/2024

WEEK 4 – 24/05/2024 (African Union Day – Saturday (25th)

WEEK 5 – 31/05/2024

WEEK 6 – 07/06/2024

WEEK 7 – 14/06/2024

WEEK 8 – 21/06/2024 (Eid al-Adha – Monday (17th)

WEEK 9 – 18/06/2024

WEEK 10 – 05/07/2024 (Republic Day – Monday (1st)

WEEK 11 -12/07/2024 (Revision and 2024 BECE Exams – Mon (8th) – Fri (12th)

WEEK 12 – 19/07/2024 (Examination)

WEEK 13 – 25/07/2024 (End of Academic Year – Thursday, 25th)

Basic schools will spend a total of 13 weeks in the third term of the 2023/2024 academic year. The academic year will officially end on 25th July, 2024.

The Ghana Education Service is doing everything possible to restore the old academic calendar. Due to this, the academic calendar for both basic schools and senior high schools will end in September this year. This will help the Ghana Education Service restore the old academic year whereby the academic starts in September or October each year.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR FOR JHS 3 STUDENTS (BECE CANDIDATES)

JHS 3 students, who are also 2024 BECE BECE candidates are currently in term 3 of the 2023/2024 academic year. Let’s take a look at what the calendar says for them until the BECE begins on Monday, 8th July, 2024 and end on Friday, 12th July, 2024.

The third term started on 30th April, 2024. Students will be in school until the 2024 BECE is over on 12th July, 2024.

The BECE for School Candidates is a school examination and is available to students in the third/final year of Junior High School only. It is therefore against the rules and regulations of the examination for schools to engage in the following activities;

Solicit for students and advertise the BECE in any form e.g. in the print, electronic or social media;
Register students who have not been enrolled in junior high school from their first year through to the third year and do not have the required continuous assessment records. The grading for the BECE is 70% external examination score and 30% continuous assessment score. Students who for one reason or the other transferred from one school to the other should have evidence of the necessary continuous assessment records;

Register students who are not in final year or are not bona fide students of the school in question. We have received intelligence reports of some students in public schools who move from their schools to private schools to register for the examination because of assurances of obtaining good grades by these schools.
