Church of Pentecost Awards Best 2023 BECE Candidate
The Schools Outreach Ministry of the Church of Pentecost, located at the Dr. S.K. Baidoo Worship Centre in Tarkwa, recently fulfilled a promise by presenting a cash prize of one thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC1000) to Obadiah Eduah Ntumi for achieving the highest score in the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
This pledge originated from the church’s commitment to support and acknowledge academic excellence within the community. The Dr. S.K. Baidoo Worship Centre had previously adopted the school, taking on the responsibility of mentoring students and staff while imparting spiritual guidance.
During a brief ceremony held to honor Obadiah, Elder James Kekeli, the Tarkwa Area Coordinator of the Schools Outreach Ministry, emphasized the significance of fulfilling the church’s promise, highlighting the encouragement it provides to future BECE candidates.
“This presentation serves as an incentive for upcoming BECE candidates to strive for excellence, as there will be continued recognition for outstanding performance,” Elder Kekeli affirmed.
Expressing gratitude for the generous gesture, Obadiah Ntumi Eduah, the recipient of the award, conveyed how the financial assistance would support his pursuit of higher education in senior high school. Despite facing the challenges of the BECE, Obadiah achieved an impressive aggregate of 12 and is currently pursuing a course in mechanical engineering at Kikam Technical Institute.

In today’s world, the role of churches, businesses, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in supporting education is more crucial than ever. By actively engaging with students and providing motivation, these entities play a significant role in nurturing the future leaders of society. One of the pivotal stages in a student’s educational journey is the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which serves as a gateway to higher education and future opportunities.
Firstly, churches have a unique opportunity to inspire and guide students through their moral teachings and community outreach programs. By integrating educational support initiatives into their activities, churches can instill values of discipline, perseverance, and academic excellence in students. Offering scholarships, organizing tutoring sessions, and recognizing outstanding academic achievements within the congregation are just a few ways churches can contribute to educational advancement.
Similarly, businesses can make a tangible impact by investing in education. Beyond corporate social responsibility, supporting education aligns with long-term economic interests by fostering a skilled workforce and driving innovation. Businesses can sponsor educational programs, provide internships or apprenticeships, and offer scholarships to deserving students. By actively participating in educational initiatives, businesses not only contribute to societal development but also cultivate a positive corporate image and strengthen community ties.
NGOs, with their focus on social welfare and development, are well-positioned to support educational initiatives in underserved communities. By collaborating with schools, local governments, and other stakeholders, NGOs can implement comprehensive programs aimed at improving access to quality education. This may involve building schools, providing educational resources, training teachers, and offering scholarships or grants to disadvantaged students.
In conclusion, the collective efforts of churches, businesses, and NGOs are essential in supporting education and motivating students, particularly during critical junctures such as the BECE. By investing in the education of young people, these entities not only contribute to individual growth but also lay the foundation for a prosperous and equitable society. As we strive towards a brighter future, collaboration between various sectors remains key in realizing the full potential of education as a catalyst for positive change.
