Dutch passport better than Ghanaian PhD: A Ghanaian young states bold
A young man’s observation, suggesting a Dutch passport is superior to a Ghanaian PhD certificate, has caused division among Ghanaians. His assertion has angered many who saw his post on Twitter, but there are many more who agree with him.
No matter where you stand, you are right based on your arguments and mindset.
Those who agree with him have argued that several PhD holders have contributed to the destruction of the country instead of using their knowledge to help build the nation. Some have also argued that many PhD holders are still unemployed after their degrees.
Saddick Adams, a renowned sports journalist, has waded into the argument. While urging Ghanaians not to harbor animosity towards the gentleman who prioritized the Dutch passport over a PhD, he asserted that obtaining a Dutch passport remains a significant aspiration for many top leaders, and he challenged them to independently verify his claims.
“That’s practically the biggest dream of your top leaders.” And you can do your checks.” He stated.
He further indicated that some members of parliament vacate their posts for close to 12 months to give birth in a Western country so that their newborn child will have access to such passports.
“A legislator can leave their position for nearly a year to give birth in a Western country.” He said, “It was all for a passport.”
Another controversial Twitter user attributed the tweet to the flag bearer of the ruling NPP, Dr. Bawaumia.
Kojo @Kojo1133 stated, “A typical example is a presidential aspirant.” Useless PHD holder working for himself. “Useless leaders with no practical vision.”
Liam Sarpong, the son of Elizabeth, expressed his support for those who agree with the controversial tweet.
Even when confronted with the truth, the average Ghanaian refuses to acknowledge it. 90% of our politicians, if not all, hold British, German, Dutch, Canadian, or USA passports. No cleaner can rent a 2-room apartment in Ghana, go on holidays, or apply for a visa.”
Owuraku @Owuraqu_filip said, “I’ve carefully analysed the video, and I must say that the guy is both right and wrong at the same time.” He is right in the sense that Academia does not pay in Ghana, but he is wrong in how he disseminated the information. “In short, our leaders are wicked.”
Other varied assertions from views sampled show that, if the statement the gentleman made was not true, the politicians would not give Ghanaians free SHS, free feeding, and promise free university education yet send their children abroad at an early age to live and study abroad.
Some argue that the comparison is inaccurate and unfair to the PhD holders in the country, pointing out that some of them have made significant contributions to Mother Ghana. They believe other PhD holders genuinely want to help but are not given the chance.
According to @nanayawamponsah, the controversial tweet from the young man is one of the most sensible tweets she has seen on the app.
According to the sample views, a greater number of Ghanaians who have seen the video and tweet agree with him. However, others have wondered how Ghanaians studying for their PhDs in Ghanaian universities and PhD holders feel about the devaluation of their dreams and certificates by a single comment, such as a Dutch passport, being better than a Ghanaian PhD.

Afia Blue, @af_ia_blue, ultimately contributed to our ongoing effort to tweet in support of PhD students and holders. Afia believed that the Dutch passport should have been considered more valuable than the Ghanaian passport. In her opinion, comparing the Dutch passport to a Ghanaian PhD is incorrect, as it diminishes the value of the Dutch passport.
The Dutch passport, not a PhD, is more valuable than the Ghanaian passport.

“Not a PhD, but the Dutch passport is more valuable than the Ghanaian passport.” That would reduce the value of a PhD to the ability to travel with ease. It literally makes no sense.” In her counter-tweet, Afia said:
