What are the Qualifications for the Vacancies for SHS Assistant Headmaster / Headmistress
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
The candidate for the position of Assistant Head of an institution should have the following basic requirements to apply.
1. Be a professional graduate teacher with at least five (5) years teaching experience in a Second Cycle School.
2. Have served at the rank of Assistant Director I or above for at least three (3) years
3. Have held any one of the following positions for not less than three (3) years
- Head of Department
- Senior Housemaster/Housemistress
- Guidance and Counselling Coordinator
- Unit Head at the Regional/Municipal/District Office
4. In addition to the above, applicant must have a satisfactory conduct and work history with the Ghana Education Service.
5. Post graduate studies in Education or second degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage.
6. Be able to serve at least a term of four (4) years before compulsory retirement

- The applicant must fill four (4) Application forms obtainable from the Regional Education Office, Damongo.
- A soft copy of the application form MUST also been forwarded to the Municipal/District Directors, Heads of Second Cycle Schools and Municipal/District Human Resource Officers.

In addition, an applicant must add the following:
- Four (4) Copies of confidential Report from Applicant’s Supervising Head or Municipal/ District Director.
- Four (4) Copies of completed appraisal forms from Applicant’s Head of Institution
- Four (4) passport- sized photographs, certified photocopies of all Academic/professional Certificates and promotion letters.
Completed forms should be submitted to the Regional Director, Ghana Education Service, Savannah latest by Friday, 26th April, 2024.
It should be noted that no application will be entertained after the deadline. Also, District Directors are to ensure that this advertisement is brought to the notice of all eligible officers and all Second Cycle Institutions in their Municipals/Districts.
When will the GES open the portal for the Recrutiment of teachers?
Only shortlisted applicants will be invited for the interview and successful applicants will be posted to schools where their services are needed.
In a related development, the Ghana Education Service is expected to announce vacancies for professional teachers posting. The management will make this public once it secures the needed financial clearance for the recruitment of new teachers for public schools.
However, it is not clear whether the GES will recruit only Diploma holders, degrees holders from colleges of Education or teachers trained by the main stream universities.
