ABOUT KsTU
Kumasi Technical University has a rich history dating back to 1954 when it was founded as Kumasi Technical Institute (K.T.I). Initially, its focus was on providing education in craft courses. Over time, it evolved, and by 1963, it transitioned into a non-tertiary Polytechnic under the Ghana Education Service. This transition allowed the institute to expand its offerings to include technician diplomas and other sub-professional courses.
In 1992, a significant milestone occurred with the passing of the Polytechnic Law (PNDC L.321). This legislation elevated the status of the institution to that of a tertiary institution. As a result, Kumasi Technical Polytechnic was tasked with producing high-caliber skilled manpower in areas such as manufacturing, commerce, science, and technology. During this phase, it gained recognition as one of the prominent and dynamic Polytechnics in Ghana.
Fast forward to 2016, and another transformative change took place with the enactment of the Technical University Act (Act 922). This legislation converted Kumasi Polytechnic into the present-day Kumasi Technical University. The primary objective of this conversion was to offer higher education programs in engineering, applied arts, science, technology-based disciplines, as well as technical and vocational training.
Notably, Kumasi Technical University is situated in a picturesque location at the heart of Kumasi, the capital city of the Ashanti Region in Ghana. Over the years, it has emerged as a crucial center for training not only for Ghana but also for other African countries.
The university also provides various academic and administrative services through its quick links, including admissions portal, email services, library catalog, and virtual classroom system. It also boasts several faculties, such as the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Graduate School, among others.
