SHS Students To Go On Vacation Tomorrow

Tomorrow, 9th May, 2024 will be the vacation day for Senior High School (SHS) 2 students in transitional (double track) schools.

First semester of the 2023/2024 academic year started on 8th March, 2024. Students spent a total of 8 weeks in the first semester.

Vacation takes effect on Friday, 10th May, 2024 to 11th July, 2024. Students will be in the house over period of two months.
Semester two of the 2023/2024 academic year will start on 12th July, 2024.

They will then be in school from 12th July, 2024 to 15th November, 2024. This will end the academic calendar for SHS 2 students in Double Track Schools.

In Summary;
SHS 2 Students will go on vacation on Thursday, 9th May, 2024.
School resumes for semester 2 on 12th July, 2024. Vacation date for semester two is 15th November, 2024

What About Basic Schools?

Basic schools in Ghana have officially resumed the third term of the 2023/2024 academic year. School resumes on Tuesday, 30th April, 2024.

Basic schools will spend a total of 13 weeks in the third term of the 2023/2024 academic year. The academic year will officially end on 25th July, 2024.

The Ghana Education Service is doing everything possible to restore the old academic calendar. Due to this, the academic calendar for both basic schools and senior high schools will end in September this year. This will help the Ghana Education Service restore the old academic year whereby the academic starts in September or October each year.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR FOR JHS 3 STUDENTS (BECE CANDIDATES)

JHS 3 students, who are also 2024 BECE BECE candidates are currently in term 3 of the 2023/2024 academic year. Let’s take a look at what the calendar says for them until the BECE begins on Monday, 8th July, 2024 and end on Friday, 12th July, 2024.

The third term started on 30th April, 2024. Students will be in school until the 2024 BECE is over on 12th July, 2024.

The BECE for School Candidates is a school examination and is available to students in the third/final year of Junior High School only. It is therefore against the rules and regulations of the examination for schools to engage in the following activities;

• Solicit for students and advertise the BECE in any form e.g. in the print, electronic or social media;
• Register students who have not been enrolled in junior high school from their first year through to the third year and do not have the required continuous assessment records. The grading for the BECE is 70% external examination score and 30% continuous assessment score. Students who for one reason or the other transferred from one school to the other should have evidence of the necessary continuous assessment records;

• Register students who are not in final year or are not bona fide students of the school in question. We have received intelligence reports of some students in public schools who move from their schools to private schools to register for the examination because of assurances of obtaining good grades by these schools.
