St Peter’s SHS To Get First Assembly Hall After 67 Years
News coming in indicates that St Peter’s Senior High School (SHS) in the Eastern region, will get its very first assembly hall in 67 years. Since the establishment of the school in 1957, there hasn’t been any assembly hall for the school.
Students usually use the dining hall or the playground as their temporal assembly hall. The government of Ghana and the ministry of Education has promised to build a new and an ultramodern assembly hall facility for the school.

St. Peter’s Senior High School, known as PERSCO, is a Roman Catholic boys’ senior high school located in Nkwatia Kwahu, in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It was founded in 1957 by the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD).

- Classroom Block
This area, called the “Class Side,” includes classroom blocks, science laboratories, a computer lab, a quiz room, and an administration block. The classroom blocks cater to Science, Business, Visual Arts, and General Arts classes.

Used for practical lessons in Physics, Biology, and Chemistry.
- Dormitories
The school has five dormitory blocks, each named after Roman Catholic saints associated with Africa or Black people. Soon, St Peter’s SHS will get an Assembly Hall

Before the computerized placement system was introduced by the government, the school conducted entrance exams to ensure only top students were admitted to the science programs.
Sports Facilities
The school boasts a football pitch, athletics oval, basketball and volleyball courts, hockey pitch, and tennis courts. PERSCO has been a top performer in basketball within the Kwahu zone, representing the area in the Super-Zonal sports festivals from 2000 to 2004.
Special Features
Palm Plantations: The school has two large palm plantations, one at the entrance and another on the mid-eastern side. These plantations provide palm fruits for the students and serve as a welcoming area for visitors.
School Chapel: The chapel can accommodate the entire student body and is used for Sunday mass attended by students, Catholic staff, and local residents. The Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese visits occasionally, and masses are led by the School Chaplain or other priest-teachers.
School Crocodiles: The school has two crocodiles, which are symbolic mascots and a tourist attraction. The school’s wildlife club is responsible for their care.
