5 NDC promises towards a better Free SHS re-echoed
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has released a new political advertisement for the 2024 election in which it outlines five NDC promises to make Free SHS a better policy for Ghanaians.
In the advertisement, the NDC attempted to debunk what it described as false pronouncements by the ruling NPP that the NDC would cancel the Free SHS policy. The NDC further asserted that they were the ones who introduced the progressively free SHS policy and that the NPP could not legitimately claim to have initiated it. The NDC started Free SHS in the 2025–2016 academic year. The advertisement further emphasized that the NPP’s poor implementation of the policy resulted in bottlenecks that negatively impacted both the policy and its beneficiaries.
The five promises made by the NDC towards a better free SHS have been reiterated as follows:
The NDC will not cancel Free SHS
The party asserts its commitment to enhancing free SHS and urges voters to ignore the NPP’s deceptive political propaganda, which aims to mislead people into believing that the NDC will abandon the policy. The party also stated that it will establish a dedicated funding source to support Free SHS.
The NDC will cancel double tracking.
The NDC further stated that if they win the December 7th election, they will undoubtedly abolish the double-track system. The NPP introduced the double track system to increase student admissions and access to free SHS.
Improve feeding at the Free SHS
The political campaign underscored the NDC’s dismay at the inadequate nutrition of students and the irregularities in the feeding management systems. The party pledged to address the issues and guarantee that students receive the highest quality and quantity of meals.
The free SHS will incorporate the private SHS.
The NDC also stated that it will ensure the private SHSs that were shortchanged with the introduction of the free SHS will be brought on board. This is to help the government solve the double-track system and create jobs for the private SHS, which have suffered negatively since the introduction of the free SHS.

200 community day schools will discontinue the double track program.
In order to eliminate the challenges of the double-track system from the country’s secondary education system, the NDC has also promised to complete the 200 community day schools it started before leaving office in 2016.
The opposition NDC seeks to reclaim power from the ruling NDC with the hope of giving Ghanaians a better Ghana that they want. It looks forward to winning the 2024 presidential election.
