Take advantage of AI to prepare lesson notes – Prof. Ampiah to teachers
Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has said that teachers in Ghana should take advantage of AI to prepare lesson notes.
He suggested that teachers should use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create their lesson plan to enable them save time since Ai does most of the work for them.
“Teachers can leverage on AI technology to streamline their lesson planning process. You want to plan a lesson … So, I can tell AI, I want to draw up a lesson for one hour. I want to teach about this topic. Can you (AI) help me with activities and incorporate them into a lesson plan? AI will do everything for you. So that instead of spending three hours preparing your lesson notes, you will spend three to five minutes to prepare your lesson notes because you are using AI,” he said
Prof. Ampiah believes that AI can improve education by making it easier for teachers to plan lessons. He also thinks it’s important for teachers to embrace new technology and teaching methods to keep up with the changing times.
At a recent conference, he encouraged teachers to be more innovative and creative in their teaching. He wants classrooms to be more interactive, with students doing most of the work while teachers act as facilitators.
However, he also warns about the importance of considering ethical issues like data privacy when using AI. He suggests that teachers should focus on teaching critical thinking and problem-solving skills instead of just memorization.

Prof. Ampiah believes that AI can be a valuable tool for teachers, but it’s essential to use it responsibly and ethically.
AI, or Artificial Intelligence, is like a smart computer program that can learn, think, and make decisions on its own. In education, AI can be a powerful tool to help teachers in many ways.
One big way AI helps teachers is by personalizing learning. This means that AI can understand each student’s strengths and weaknesses and give them lessons and exercises that match their needs. For example, if a student is struggling with math, AI can provide extra practice problems or explanations to help them understand better.
Another way AI supports teachers is by grading assignments and tests faster. Instead of teachers spending hours grading papers by hand, AI can do it in seconds. This gives teachers more time to focus on teaching and helping students.
AI can also assist in creating lesson plans and finding educational resources. By analyzing data from past lessons and student performance, AI can suggest new ways to teach concepts or recommend helpful materials like videos, articles, or interactive activities.
In addition, AI can facilitate communication between teachers, students, and parents. Chatbots powered by AI can answer common questions, provide feedback on student progress, and even schedule parent-teacher conferences.
Furthermore, AI can help identify students who may need extra support or intervention. By analyzing data on attendance, grades, and behavior, AI can flag students who may be at risk of falling behind or struggling with certain subjects.
AI has the potential to revolutionize education by making it more personalized, efficient, and effective. By assisting teachers with tasks like personalizing learning, grading, lesson planning, communication, and student support, AI can help create a more engaging and supportive learning environment for all students.
